¡ýA Brief Introduction To Acupotomology

Acupotomology is a whole new medical theory system founded by Chinese professor Zhu Hanzhang in 1980's. Having summarized many serious shortcomings and flaws of modern medicine and reformed it in the thinking model of oriental medicine, acupotomology combined the virtues of eastern and western medical systems. By merging the largest two medical systems in the world to be a new one, acupotomology overcame sequelae and complications caused to human body by western surgery and many unavoidable complications and drug resistance problems caused by chemical drugs; and also solved the problem of science in oriental medicine and thereby modernized it. This extraordinary combination started a new era of global medical theories and operation techniques. Chinese minister of health Wenkang Zhang said:" Acupotomology has reached a state of "ECCE" ---- EASY, CONVINIENT, CHEAP and EFFECTIVE, and is well adapted to the conditions of our nation and many others as well¡"

"EASY" means the simplification of complicated operations in a surgery. Operation traumas in surgery were avoided, so that the pain therapy turned out to be nearly painless, and the efficacy of surgery was improved greatly.

"CONVINIENT" means by taking very little energy, only two experienced surgeons with simple appliances can carry out almost all kinds of complicated operations, which require many surgeons, lot of labor and complex instruments in conventional treatment.

"CHEAP" means great savings of medical inputs and costs due to the achievements of "EASY" and "CONVINIENT". The special diagnostic and treatment technologies and the establishments of various new theories of physiology, pathology and etiology made it possible to treat kinds of diseases without using large amount of chemical drugs, and therefore saved medical expenditure by up to 90 percent.

"EFFECTIVE" means acupotomy is more effective in treating many kinds of difficult cases than conventional eastern or western remedies. A series of difficult cases which used to be regarded as incurable are cured by acupotomy, such as advanced stage of Ankylosing spondylitis, sequelae of joints and soft tissues injuries, advanced stage of diabetes, chronic nephritis, chronic hepatitis, chronic pharyngitis etc. And also a lot of diseases which conventionally took long time of treatment are now made quickly curable, such as chondromalacia patellae, hyperosteogeny, different kinds of arthritis, cervical spondylosis, prolapse of intervertebral disc, chronic bronchitis, chronic enteritis, chronic gastric ulcer etc.

The heavy burden of medical costs is troubling many countries at present, so acupotomy could cut medical costs largely according to above-mentioned advantages.
In every country, there are a lot of habitants who lost their working abilities because of serious sequelae after being cured from some kind of diseases. However, acupotomy does much better and do not leave any sequelae in curing these diseases. For example, the conventional treatment of joint fracture has an opportunity of more than 80% of causing sequelae, while acupotomy curing them with 100% sequelae-free. Further more, in every country, there are also a lot of patients with chronic diseases are under long term treatment, which not only make themselves lost working abilities, but also have their family members taking care of them, and they have to suffer long time of torment and pay large sums of money for medical costs. All these together caused great loss and became a heavy burden, and this is why Minister Zhang said acupotomology is well adapted to the conditions of our nation and many others.

It is because of the above-mentioned efficacies and advantages that acupotomology has been developing so fast that hospitals throughout China began acupotomy services and had their promising doctors trained in Beijing. According to a national survey conducted in 2002, acupotomy services were provided in 11,000 various kinds of medical organizations including acupotomy hospitals, therapy centers, clinics, and acupotomy departments in hospitals; the service team had boomed up to 100,000 including about 10,000 advanced experts and the team serves 600,000 patients per day. All this is due to professor Zhu Hanzhang's 17 years dedication to acupotomology education. In addition, Professor Zhu also trained over 3,000 foreign students from 48 countries and regions. Acupotomology constitutions were founded in those countries, and academies of acupotomology have come into being in 12 of them.

The federation of national acupotomology associations headed by Professor Zhu has been established since as early as 1992, with branches in 29 provinces and more than 37,000 members throughout the nation.

Acupotomology is now spreading to the whole world in an unprecedented speed. Dongguk University of South Korea, Naresuan University of Thailand, and National University of Malaysia are preparing for establishing acupotomology departments and schools of acupotomology; University of Maryland and Harvard University of the United States have already established their centers for acupotomology education and research, and associations of acupotomology.

Chinese government is making efforts in preparing for setting up acupotomology departments and schools of acupotomology in the national medical universities in the coming few years. A general textbook of acupotomology for the national medical universities authored by Professor Zhu Hanzhang will be published soon. Professor Zhu's cornerstone works for acupotomology are: ¡¶Acupotomy¡· (1992), ¡¶NEEDLE SCALPEL THERAPY¡· (1991), ¡¶Handbook of codes for acupotomy diagnostics and treatment¡· (1996), ¡¶Clinical acupotomy diagnostics and treatment¡· (1998), ¡¶Principles in acupotomology¡· (2002).
